DESCRIPTION

City of London uses needle as pen, colorful threads as ink, and joined pieces of self-textured cotton cloth as surface — drawing the city through the intricacy of its own materials. The work represents London as I find it: phenomenal, addictive, seductive, full of hybrid identities, with an absorbency that pulls everything into itself. The density and anomalousness of the drawing mirrors the city’s ever-changing complex structure — its original-artificiality, unpredictability, and the transiency of the existences it contains. A fourth dimension is added through the smell of alcohol soaked into the fabric — an olfactory layer that extends the work beyond the visual and into the sensory memory of the city itself.
