DESCRIPTION
DRINKS began with the phenomenon of stream of consciousness. According to a research study, we take approximately 21,000 breaths in a day but produce 30,000 to 65,000 thoughts — we think more than we breathe. The work takes this as its starting point.
The flicker movie is assembled from hundreds of photographs taken spontaneously in my surroundings — whatever drew my attention became material. The rapid succession of images enacts the stream of consciousness itself: the temporality and transiency of thoughts, their constant flow and liquidity, their entanglement with vision, chaos, restlessness, and the material world. At the same time, the work touches the other side of that stream — nature, creation, the five elements of existence (Air, Water, Earth, Sky, Space), and the constant healing that runs beneath the surface of mental noise. The flicker format holds both: the overwhelming speed of the thinking mind and the stillness that exists between its frames.
