DESCRIPTION
Part of the rituals of self series, Perseverance suppresses the most automatic function of the eyes — blinking — and holds the suppression until the body’s reflex overpowers the will. The work isolates a single involuntary act, refuses it, and observes what unfolds: the constant shift of power from the body to the Self and from the Self to the body, made visible through the spontaneous visual drama of an eye fighting to close.
I gaze at nothing without blinking my eyes.
